We do not want to be the biggest!
We want to be the best!
Advertising slogan of the Turbo Tape manufacturer

Some months ago I helped a neighbour to clear out a quite shabby flat of his former tenant. While I was doing that clearing work, I found an empty case of a compact cassette for computer data from the eighties. Today I have taken a close look at the case. On the case is the name of the item 'Turbo Tape'. The writing 'Commodore 16' points out the fact that the cassette was designed for the computer 'Commodore 16'. That was a computer for private users.

Below the name of the item is the writing 'Loading and recording of programms at eightfold speed'. On the rear side of the case there is a detailed explanation ' ... by means of TURBO TAPE you can record and load programms (maximum size is 28 K) as fast as by means of a floppy disk! A programm of a size of 12 K will be loaded within 48 seconds instead of 6:42 minutes, that's the eightfold speed.'

People don't use compact cassettes for computer data any more. Nowadays they even rarely use floppy disks, they use CD-Rs and RWs. My second-hand computer still has 3,5''-floppy-drive.

By means of that drive I stored a file of 12 K on the hard drive in blink of the eye. When I loaded the file from 3,5''-floppy-drive into a programm, it took about four seconds. (My wife Christine helped me to translate the text. Thanks.)
